An Enduring Legacy

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." - Samuel Adams, 1771

It is our duty to be worthy of this legacy.

The Tradition Continues

When Congress passed the first Militia Act in 1792, it recognized that citizens have chosen to form their own units, even when the state and federal governments specified an organizational scheme: "X.....And whereas sundry corps of artillery, cavalry and infantry now exist in several of the said states, which by the laws, customs, or usages thereof, have not been incorporated with, or subject to the general regulation of the militia.

XI. Be it enacted, That such corps retain their accustomed privileges subject, nevertheless, to all other duties required by this Act, in like manner with the other militias."

It is this tradition that we are resolved to preserve. Thus, we equip and organize ourselves to mirror a unit on the regular establishment, as close as the means available to us allow.

The Troop Today

Militias, comprised of the citizenry organized for acting in the common defense, antecede the United States and are recognized as such by the US Constitution and US Supreme Court. The Dallas City Troop is one such organization. The Troop is a voluntary association for the purpose of enhancing community security, so that ordered liberty may flourish.

The Troop operates under the truest form of military discipline while mustered - the respect of each Trooper for the skills of fellow soldiers. Those who agree with the Troop's objectives and methods are warmly welcomed by their comrades in the quest to preserve and transmit personal liberty to our posterity.

Toward the Future

It is hoped that our state and others will take active measures to restore and invigorate the militias of the several states. This is the surest means of providing homeland security. In such a quest, there will be none who will work more toward achieving this goal than the Dallas City Troop. Every public entity must be accountable to the citizens it serves, and we hold ourselves to this same standard.
